We were nearly sold on Platinum Games’ upcoming beat ‘em up brutalizer Mad World from the description alone: Frank Miller-style animation meets classic brawler meets The Running Man. Our excitement level grew exponentially after getting a preview back at E3 from the folks at Sega. And after seeing the new trailer released at the Leipzig Games Convention (taking place in Germany as this is being written), we’re reaching a fever pitch.
Featuring a few boss fights (something we’ve never seen before) in addition to a whole mess of new environments, the new trailer has us wishing we’d get some hands-on time with the game already. Maybe Sega will go all the way crazy and have a playable demo at TGS? We’ll have to wait and see unfortunately. For now, we can all enjoy the video above.
You read that right: Japan has completely sold out of 360s, as in the console is not available anywhere until next month due to “sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales” according to the nice translation of the official statement that Kotaku posted today. I’m not entirely sure what the implications of this are, but I will be going to the store to stock up on water, toilet paper, canned beans, Spam and a crowbar for when the hellmouth opens.
Everybody knows videogames sales drop in the summertime. Whether it’s the Olympics, GTA IV hangovers or something we heard about once called the “outdoors,” July’s NPD numbers are showing that predictable drop. July’s console sales don’t differ much from June’s numbers, with DS and Wii killingchumpatizing the competition and PS3 barely edging out Xbox 360 by about 15,000 units. Microsoft’s only redeeming talking point this month will be 360’s NCAA Football 2009 topping the software list. Lists and analysis after the jump. Read more »
The premise for this new DS game from Ignition Entertainment is you control a tornado that sweeps up everything in its path. But, of course, you have to gobble up the smaller stuff before taking on the big fish. Sound like something you’ve played before? Not only is the gameplay strikingly similar (Since when can a tornado dash?) but the plot of the game is that you are on Planet 69 taking back the stuff that the “Prince” stole from earth. Not joking here. Check out the trailers on the official website.
Should we be concerned? Overlord II is apparently heading to the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009… which isn’t so much of a shock. What is shocking is that publisher Codemasters anounced today that they’d be not only shipping Overlord II but also “Overlord: Dark Legend for Wii, featuring minion control through Wii Remote movement” and “Overlord: Minions, a dedicated puzzle action title, for Nintendo DS.” While we admittedly haven’t exactly sunk hours into the original Overlord, we here at QP were certainly taken aback to find out Codemasters believes in “the Overlord franchise” enough to span them across so many consoles. (It probably doesn’t hurt that Nintendo is the current market leader, no?) How about you, dearest reader? Was the original Overlord exciting enough for a sequel, none the less alternate iterations? For the full press release, hit the break.

Everybody has been talking about Brett Favre’s AARP-discounted direct flight from Green Bay to New York City. Unfortunately, EA didn’t get the memo. Their Madden 2009 cover will feature old-man Favre in his Packers jersey. Details on the planned update (and curse) after the jump.
Alright, so you could say we’re a little excited about Lionhead Studios’ upcoming Action/Adventure/RPG Fable 2. After sitting down with the game at this E3 this year, we’re pretty convinced that Molyneaux’s fit everything he could into the game without totally borking the overall execution. If you’ll recall, he even let us know first and foremost at the Microsoft Press Conference, “Fable 2 is done!” He even gave us the month of October for release. Well now we know even more.
In addition to the Collector’s Edition you see above, we found out today that Fable 2 will release on October 21st in the U.S. — and quickly thereafter will take over our lives. And though the cornucopia of Fable 2 schwag above looks somewhat appealing, we’ll likely be sticking with a good ol’ regular edition. How about you, dear readers? Are you willing to schill out $80 for “a Hobbe figure, making-of documentary, “additional in-game content” and a trial Live account”?
This is how you get fantasy subject matter that takes itself somewhat seriously and totally discredit it: take the main character and draw a caricature of them with tiny little dinosaur arms, baggy white pants and elfin shoes. If you really want, you could add a tremendously oversized, dangerous looking glove to one of their hands and then maybe give the character a stupid little smirk. There you go! Totally ruined! Fantastic!
Okay, we’re exagerrating, clearly. However, concept or not, this art above makes us more than a little trepidatious regarding the upcoming Prince of Persia DS game. HOWEVER, the screenshot gallery after the break will certainly help to assuage some of those worries. They do look fairly decent (and thankfully 2-D), regardless of the terrible image you see above. Hit the bump for the shots!
What’s that? You’re thirsty for more splattered paint and stylized graphics? Well good, ’cause Ubisoft is happy to oblige you with a big fat load of new screens from their in-progress current-gen update to everyone’s favorite Persian Prince. Although we still don’t have a release date (and we’re furious that the folks at Comic-Con got to play a game we couldn’t at E3, all of a week later), we do have a whole bunch of shots to get your heart all aflutter. Hit the bump for the gallery treatment and stay tuned for the DS shots later today!
