Beware! This is 12 minutes you’ll never get back! While at one point in time Afrika for the PS3 scintillated our primordial senses, we now just wish we could play some Pokemon Snap (we love them Pokemans). After the entire 12 minutes of video above had finished rolling, we had learned two important things about Afrika (again, the game, not the misspelled country):
1.) It had better still be a ways off, in terms of release dates.
2.) Sony is now creating new ins with strange markets: videogame-playing safari photographers.
Afrika is an exclusive title for the Playstion 3, and while it’s been released in Japan already, it has yet to receive a formal release date in the U.S. (at least according to Gamestop!). We’ll keep you updated of course if more information is to come in — like, for instance, anything interesting. We’re begging you here, Rhino!
My affinity for videogames, especially those of the fighting variety, is no secret. I’ve been known to throw down the gauntlet over every iteration of Smash Bros. since it’s inception (with no signs of slowing) and I’m prone to lecture people on the irreconcilable D-pad found on the Xbox 360 controllers, specifically due to it’s fighting game implications (as well as it’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed implications, but that’s another conversation entirely).
It should be no surprise to you then, dear readers, when I say that the moment I found outStreet Fighter IV had arrived in Philadelphia, I was making plans for my bee-line towards it. After playing (and thoroughly enjoying) the game at this year’s E3 in LA last month, I set out to discover the differences between the direct-from-Japan Capcom machines playable at E3 and the direct-from-Japan “gray market” systems that are now being played in Philly (and other cities nationwide). University Pinball in West Philly held the answers — hit the bump for all the info.
The official website for Metal Slug 7 for the Nintendo DS went up today. It’s pretty empty right now save for a few screenshots and an old trailer. There are, however, downloadable ring tones and clever profiles of new and returning characters if you have a few minutes to kill at work. (Spoiler Alert: Tarma hates superficial people.) Check back as the release date nears for more info.
Hudson Entertainment announced today Bomberman Blast, an original WiiWare title, is on its way. It offers up to 8-player online, leaderboards, and Mii support. No mention of a single player experience. The screens look promising, but seriously — let’s stop fooling around. When are we gonna get a solid Bomberman title for the Wii? Bomberman 2 is slated for an early 2009 release for DS, but seems to be drowned in unnecessary RPG elements and Emo-clad fashonista Bombermen. We had Bomberman Land earlier in the year which fell victim to the Wii’s mini-game fucktravfluenza epidemic.
At least according to Martijn Van der Meulen, a producer on Home. He doesn’t just say something all willy nilly like “Sure, yeah, it’s coming out this year I think.” He’s quite serious when he states, “It is a 100 percent guarantee that Home will be released by the end of this calendar year.” Not fiscal year, mind you. And he didn’t specify regions (though we’d imagine North America sees the launch of Home before anyone else). Furthermore, Van der Meulen reassured IGN, “I know some gamers were concerned that once Home reached a certain user base, a fee might be applied to the service, but this is not the case. There are no plans to charge for Home, even in the far future.” Now all they have to do is unify your avatar across all games and create one ubiquitous system for all online games and we’ll be on board! Oh, and a price drop would be nice. Get going on that stuff, will ya Sony?
It’s been quite a while since there have been any reports on when the much-hyped downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will be released. But now, Microsoft has officially laid down a concrete, to the hour time we can all expect the downloads: “This Fall.” Jump it for details. Read more »
That, my friends, is the trailer for Heavy Rain, due out on the PlayStation 3 next year, straight from the Leipzig Games Convention. It looks, well…just watch it. It’s creepy in all the right ways, including how fucking real-but-almost-not-quite that girl looks. The wiggins? Yes, I have them.
We were nearly sold on Platinum Games’ upcoming beat ‘em up brutalizer Mad World from the description alone: Frank Miller-style animation meets classic brawler meets The Running Man. Our excitement level grew exponentially after getting a preview back at E3 from the folks at Sega. And after seeing the new trailer released at the Leipzig Games Convention (taking place in Germany as this is being written), we’re reaching a fever pitch.
Featuring a few boss fights (something we’ve never seen before) in addition to a whole mess of new environments, the new trailer has us wishing we’d get some hands-on time with the game already. Maybe Sega will go all the way crazy and have a playable demo at TGS? We’ll have to wait and see unfortunately. For now, we can all enjoy the video above.
You read that right: Japan has completely sold out of 360s, as in the console is not available anywhere until next month due to “sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales” according to the nice translation of the official statement that Kotaku posted today. I’m not entirely sure what the implications of this are, but I will be going to the store to stock up on water, toilet paper, canned beans, Spam and a crowbar for when the hellmouth opens.
Everybody knows videogames sales drop in the summertime. Whether it’s the Olympics, GTA IV hangovers or something we heard about once called the “outdoors,” July’s NPD numbers are showing that predictable drop. July’s console sales don’t differ much from June’s numbers, with DS and Wii killingchumpatizing the competition and PS3 barely edging out Xbox 360 by about 15,000 units. Microsoft’s only redeeming talking point this month will be 360’s NCAA Football 2009 topping the software list. Lists and analysis after the jump. Read more »
