Bomberman Musings Amid WiiWare Resurrections
August 26th, 2008 by Shawn Annable under Features, News. [ Comments: none ]

Hudson Entertainment announced today Bomberman Blast, an original WiiWare title, is on its way. It offers up to 8-player online, leaderboards, and Mii support. No mention of a single player experience. The screens look promising, but seriously — let’s stop fooling around. When are we gonna get a solid Bomberman title for the Wii? Bomberman 2 is slated for an early 2009 release for DS, but seems to be drowned in unnecessary RPG elements and Emo-clad fashonista Bombermen. We had Bomberman Land earlier in the year which fell victim to the Wii’s mini-game fucktravfluenza epidemic.

Casual Monday — Referencing Ourselves Edition
August 18th, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

Another week, another casual title slides across our desk, onto our screens and, eventually, into your hands. It’d be hard for us to call this week’s game any word even resembling casual. Our first instinct with Rock Solid Arcade’s shooter cum action-rpg Robokill: Titan Prime would be to call it a Smash TV clone — and that’d be woefully incorrect also.

Combining the room-to-room dungeon style of top down games like Smash TV with the addictive leveling up qualities found in games like God of War and even WoW, Robokill packs a lot into it’s online-only package. Oh, hey, did we mention it’s free?

Week-End Podcast Roundup — Meta Podcast Edition
August 17th, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

Alright, so it’s been a slow week here at QPHQ, we’ll admit it. If there’s anyone to blame, it’s those bastards at Bizarre Creations and their newest amphetimine game, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2. We’ve been spending so much time playing Geo 2 that we barely had a chance to take down Master D’s forces a notch or two in Bionic Commando: Rearmed, though you should expect a review by Tuesday at the latest.  So how’s about we get to the podcast roundup extra late this week and kick you down with the videogame jams you’ve been so anxiously waiting for?

Thursday Time-Wasting: Coign of Vantage
August 14th, 2008 by Katie Lind under Features. [ Comments: none ]

The best thing to do when you should be doing other, more important things is, of course, dick around online and find random time-wasting flash games. Like my newly-discovered (thanks to Wonderland) little 5-minute obsession, Coign of Vantage. It’s easier if you just go to the site and play it for yourself than for me to try and explain it here — promise.

Before They Were Consoles…
August 14th, 2008 by Alex Irwin under Features. [ Comments: none ]

QP tries not to Digg stuff that’s already been dugg, because then the site would just look like, well, Digg and be filled with idiotic Digg stuff that’s already been dugg, because then the site would just look like, well, Digg and be filled with idiotic lists and speculation. But this semi-list was too good to pass up.

Gamesradar has a post about the codenames for most of the major consoles, from Atari 2600 (Stella) to Wii (Nintendo Revolution). Our favorite? N64 was codenamed Project Reality. Rightly so, considering how real the Golden Gun looked in our 64-bit hand.

Casual Monday — Faux-Fighting Edition
August 11th, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

We like this week’s Casual Monday, Ragdoll Masters, for a whole slew of reasons, none of those being its abilities as a fighting game. While the games creators would have you believe “In this game you control a stylized martial arts master, making his way through stronger and stronger opponents with spectacular moves and impressive blows.”, we know the truth: ragdoll physics in this game result in sloppy controls. Which, oddly, works out for the better — and something they shout tout!

Week-End Podcast Roundup — Xbox Live Addiction Edition
August 8th, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

Normally we don’t spend all our time with Xbox 360 employing its hard drive, playing Xbox Live Arcade games, but this month we’re making serious exception. Maybe you missed us last week when we told you about the Summer’s End XBLA blowout taking place, dubbed the “Summer of Arcade“? Either way, our weekend will assuredly be filled with terrifying geometric shapes and time-reversal gameplay (with reviews of both coming early next week) — how about you? In case you can’t handle the “steep” price for Braid, there are always a mountain of podcasts to check out.

Casual Tuesday — Only Bet On Yourself Edition
August 5th, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

While we begged and pleaded our esteemed colleagues to write yesterday’s Casual Monday feature, clearly the day passed without so much as a peep from us regarding free games for you to enjoy. Thusly, we have come to the should have been obvious realization: the only real motivating factor is money. Except for the people that make these Casual Monday Tuesday releases, that is! This week we’re bringing you somewhat of a marketing tool for the upcoming PS3 release The Last Guy, in the form of it’s Japanese website. Hit the bump for details.

Week-End Podcast Roundup — AFK Edition
August 1st, 2008 by Benjamin Gilbert under Features. [ Comments: none ]

While away from QPHQ, it’s always difficult to put together these podcast roundups because we’re not exactly streaming them through our non-existent iPhones. We push on though, tough as it may be, and bring you yet another week of audible goodness. Though we’ve added them in the past, the CAG Foreplay podcast featuring the Shipwrecks adds a much needed touch of humanity into what’s become an ever increasing “insider” feel to all these ‘casts. Either way, hit the bump and add some free information to your computer.
