Casual Monday — Faux-Fighting Edition
August 11th, 2008 Features

We like this week’s Casual Monday, Ragdoll Masters, for a whole slew of reasons, none of those being its abilities as a fighting game. While the games creators would have you believe “In this game you control a stylized martial arts master, making his way through stronger and stronger opponents with spectacular moves and impressive blows.”, we know the truth: ragdoll physics in this game result in sloppy controls. Which, oddly, works out for the better — and something they shout tout!

Controlling your ragdoll is at first a test of patience, though it becomes a much more rewarding experience quickly as you begin to grasp the yolks and carefully harness the subtle control mechanics. Targeting is job #1 as punches, kicks and headbutts aren’t chosen by button presses but by the way in which ragdolls interact with each other. The games biggest flaw is that, well, it kinda sorta costs money. Alas, the shareware levels are enough fun to while away our week of casual bliss until the next Monday rolls around. At very least, this game will expedite our daytime hours not spent playing Geometry Wars 2
