Fatal Fury 2 (SNK, 1992; 900 Wii points) is a fighter that was, to say the least, ahead of its time. The series introduced multi-plane fighting, a feature popularized years later by the Dead or Alive series.
An arcade favorite eventually produced for five systems, it was the first in the FF series to use the 4-button attack scheme, not to mention the “desparation attack” — basically the blue spiny shell of fighting games. Crowd favorites like Big Bear (Raiden), and the Bogard bros. return.
Verdict: a must for fans of the series, not recommended for casual gamers.
Magnetica Twist (NoA, 2008; 1000 Wii points) is the Wiifresh of the popular DS puzzle game. Players launch color-coded dots at a big candy spiral to prevent them from reaching the middle. Seriously.
The ‘Twist’ is the addition of Wii motion control. Instead of controlling the spiral with the DS stylus, you twist the screen with the Wiimote. This one’s mostly color-based, so color-blind Quarterplay EIC Benjamin Gilbert won’t be able to play. While it keeps the challenge mode from the DS original, it omits the player-favored puzzle mode.
Verdict: this will be popular on those retirement home Wiis.
