Guitar Hero World Tour vs The Rock Band “Platform”: FIGHT!
June 23rd, 2008 News

As we mentioned earlier, Guitar Hero III dominated Rock Band in May sales figures, selling more than twice as many copies. Despite higher sales, Activision’s upcoming release Guitar Hero: World Tour will feature a new guitar with a “touchband” on the neck that looks like it will simulate the bending of notes for sustain. The new game will also include a microphone and drum kit, which is reported to be quieter than Rock Band’s set.

IGN has a full preview, here.

In related Guitar Hero/Rock Band news, it is looking more and more likely that the music of The Beatles will make its way into both games in the near future; the game would likely be released as a stand-alone edition featuring only The Beatles’ music (Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, anyone?) The announcement should come as a bit of a surprise to lots in the entertainment biz, if only because of The Beatles’ previous reluctance to offer up their songs for anything, really (iTunes, movies, commercials, etc.)

Wired.com has more, plus their list of the top-ten Beatles tunes they would want to see in the game. We say anything with a Paul McCartney bass line will be hard as hell. (I want Helter Skelter! -Ed.)

I think we’re rapidly approaching the “too much is too much” phase of the music game explosion. Playing air guitar for a score is awesome. Trying to craft an origional song in GH:WT…There is a high suck risk with this one.

And now Konami is getting into the game with their own iteration. How many plastic drum kits do these publishers expect us to buy?
